Become a Foster

Why Fostering Matters While our foundation began as a TNR (Trap–Neuter–Return) effort, we often encounter kittens in our traps who cannot be returned to their outdoor environments. For these little ones, foster homes are essential. Fosters allow us to safely house, socialize, and prepare kittens for adoption once they enter our care.
We do not operate a physical shelter, so having foster homes ready and available enables us to save more kittens when they unexpectedly appear in our TNR work.
What Fosters Provide - A safe, temporary place for kittens to decompress and grow - Daily care such as feeding, litter maintenance, and gentle handling - Help with early socialization so kittens become adoptable - Occasional transportation to vet appointments (when needed) - Observations about behavior and personality to assist with placement
What ICFF Provides - All required veterinary care (spay/neuter, rabies, vaccinations)
- Medications when needed
- Support and guidance from experienced volunteers
- Supplies depending on availability (litter, food, etc.)
- Promotion of your foster kittens to help them find forever homes
Type of Fosters Needed - Kittens (single or pairs)
- Bonded pairs
- Kittens from TNR traps who need socialization
- Adult cats needing a calm place to adjust (as needed)
- Short-term emergency fosters
How Long is a Foster Commitment? The timeline varies. Highly adoptable kittens may find homes within a week or two, while shy or unsocialized kittens may require more time and patience. We work with your schedule and comfort level.
Why Foster? - You directly help save lives that would otherwise be at risk outdoors
- You play a crucial role in shaping frightened kittens into loving, adoptable companions
- You provide stability during the most important stage of a kitten’s development
- You can foster as frequently or infrequently as you choose — even one foster cycle makes a difference
How to Apply? - Fill out the form below
- A volunteer will contact you to discuss your home, experience, and preferences
- Once approved, we match you with kittens who fit your comfort level and household
Additional Notes - Fosters need to stay in communication and reach out with questions
- If a foster placement isn’t the right fit, we will work with you to adjust or reassign as needed
- Homes with children or other pets are welcome — we work to ensure safe and appropriate matches
